With Grace and Gravity:

Recently, I was reminded of my visit to the 2007 Venice Biennale and some of the amazing artworks that I saw in the Africa Pavilion (which of course, was my favourite tent). One of the artists that stood out for me was El Anatsui. This Ghanaian born artist uses bottle caps, soda cans and other recycled materials to create monumental metal ‘fabrics’. His work , which references global consumerism and the relationships between Africa and the Western World, is currently on exhibition at Akron Art Museum in Ohio and will then move to New York.
